What is Search Engine Submission ?
Search Engine Submission is seen as a way to promote a web site on the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN which use crawlers, bots, and spiders to eventually find most pages in each submitted web site.
There are two basic reasons to submit a web site or web page to a search engine.
- The first reason would be to add an entirely new web site because the site operators would rather not wait for a search engine to discover them.
- The second reason is to have a web page or web site updated in the respective search engine.
There are 2 main ways to submit a website.
- One is to submit the main index page as a single submission after which the search engine spiders search the rest of the website.
- Two is to submit an XML sitemap which should be updated at least monthly (preferrably weekly) and resubmitted.
If you do not know what a sitemap is or how it works just submit your main index page. From just the home page, most search engines are able to crawl a site, provided that it is well designed.
A well designed website has a maximum depth of 3 links "down" only.
